What is your role at Levitch Design Associates?
I am the Administration and Marketing Director. Our team deals with client enquiries. I work initially on the larger projects with financial, architectural and town planning feasibilities. It then goes to our Design Managers. I will stay with the project and manage it through the major hurdles.
What are the three essential elements in your designs that your clients desire?
A great looking practice that is relaxed and easy to work in, but falls within their budget.
What project are you currently working on?
We have 20 projects on at any one time. We have projects in every State and New Zealand. They range from a 100 square metre fitout to 1,700 square metre mixed use building.
What was your most challenging project and why?
Clients, councils and builders are challenging. Projects are easy to design. We have an experienced and creative team.
Your firm has been involved in a number of healthcare projects. What are the key issues when designing such buildings?
Convincing the practitioner that the built environment has a significant effect on the patient and ultimately on the success of the treatment. A healthcare building has a therapeutic role to play in its own right.
These are purpose built buildings, so we have the benefit of designing from the inside out. The functionality of the practice determines the scope of the building.
Name three things about you that people would not know.
- I am a registered dentist
- I run the design practice with my wife Anne, who is the Design Director
- I stopped practicing clinical dentistry in 2001
