Within the City of Sydney area, 75% of residents live in apartment buildings. These vertical villages consume close to 40% of the City’s water, 10% of its energy and create around 50% of residential waste. Smart Green Apartments was launched 20 September 2011.
With predictions that half of New South Wales will be living in apartment buildings by 2030, it’s time to act now for smarter and greener apartment living.
What is Smart Green Apartments?
Smart Green Apartments is a City of Sydney program working towards a more sustainable apartment building sector. It will inspire, drive and support greener, more cost effective and efficient buildings; minimise environmental impacts and improve liveability in strata communities.
Working with a range of buildings in the City of Sydney area, this program will identify how much energy and water a building is consuming, and show how and when to make changes to reduce consumption, improve efficiency and save money. Smart Green Apartments will also look at waste management within participating buildings.
